Mindful Inspiration for Life

The Reckoning: Decolonising our minds
And so this process of learning about white privilege and the deep structural biases that privilege white folks, and leaning into the gritty and uncomfortable truths that are uncovered as I learn more and see more, and then the working through how to ‘settle’ this in terms of the actions I take in the world. Well it feels very much like a reckoning to me.
Yet, it’s a reckoning that I feel so passionately about turning towards.

Knowing Who We Are: Tracing my Roots
I had started to feel pretty untethered.
My bones were calling for something that I could really settle into as my own culture and spirituality. I was grieving the brokenness of White Western Imperialism and the disconnection from nature and from wonder and from daily ritual and ceremony.
Yet, as I learned from Australian Aboriginal wisdom keepers, as I sat in Women’s Circles and as I learned about the Drummers, the Storytellers, the Shamans and the Tarot, I could still see where the dots would connect back to a shared way of being.

Who the F#%k am I to take up Space?
Acknowledging the ways that I was enabled to take up space and have a platform, simply due to the body that I was born in, and coming to understand the ways that I perpetuate the colonisation of other cultures within the Wellness space, was mind-blowing.

Every Body is unique: meeting yourself in Yoga
Everyone and every body is different. Yoga is a state of connection between body, breath and mind, and of connection with our environment too. But Yoga is also a practice — of turning inwards, of deep listening and of honouring the messages that the body gives us in each moment. Each of us needs to find our own edge in our practice to have both growth and longevity on the mat and in life…

Lost in Scroll: Mindfulness and boundaries around social media
After a 10 day detox from Instagram I realised how much space I was filling up with scrolling, posting, responding, liking, commenting… scrolling. I was kind to myself. The platform is designed to be addictive. I’m not a bad person for letting things swing out of balance. What the break did was help me reset boundaries.

Beating Winter Stagnation
Winter is a season that pulls me in different directions. On the one hand energetically it is a time to turn in, reflect, restore and wait for the spring to come. Generally we need to sleep more, eat more warming foods, exercise less and make more time for stillness and reflection. Yet, I love to ski and so find myself in many ways more active and energised to get out and enjoy the snow! As with everything I find that it’s all about creating your own balance.

Demystifying Four Meditation Myths
Throughout my journey teaching meditation in our community and online I hear many reasons that people find meditation difficult and a number of them relate to some ‘myths’ around what meditation is supposed to be like. What our experience should be or what our practice should look like!
Here I’m going to bust four of those myths for you so you can let go of them as barriers to practice!!
